Set the loop control variable (process value source) and update the cache.

Parameters:

loop_variable – The loop variable (e.g. LoopVariable.MASS_FLOW, LoopVariable.VOLUMETRIC_FLOW).

Returns:

The confirmed setpoint value from the device.
